Question: I Think my spouse is cheating on me. Should I hire a Private Investigator?

First off: you must think about why you suspect your spouse is cheating on you. Financial problems, extensive deployments overseas (if military), emotional turmoil such as losing a child, family member, can all add to a stressful marriage. If you suspect that your spouse may be cheating on you, you have to be prepared to the consequences of the results of a professional investigation. If your suspicions are confirmed or denied, you still will have to have a plan to move forward. Hiring a professional investigator is a oftentimes expensive proposition. Think about counseling, church and civic groups and family support groups. Reach out to your community for help with your marriage. If you decide to hire an Investigator, be prepared for the possibility of finding evidence that your suspicions were correct. Where do you go from there? Do you hire an attorney for a divorce? Where will you live? How will you support yourself? How will you move on with your life?

Question: I spent hundred of dollars hiring other private investigators, and i can never prove what I suspect. How can you find information that others cannot?

Honestly, I might not be able to.
Being a professional investigator requires two important skills: patience and luck. The best investigator can work for weeks and even months gathering evidence and distilling facts to present you and find absolutely nothing to help you with your goal. By the same token, an investigator can find all the information you need within 10 minutes of you hiring them. When you hire a professional investigator, you should give him/her all the information you have at your disposal. Even if it seems trivial, such as eye color, favorite sport, what food they like (when looking for missing persons) or corporate interests, charities, known associates, partners and colleagues (due diligence) everything can be a stepping stone to finding information you need.

Question: What if you dont find anything, what did I pay for?

You are paying for an investigators time. It takes a lot of real work to find information. It also costs money to upkeep database services, equipment and overhead such as salaries, office space and supplies. Keep in mind that investigators oftentimes spent nights, weekends and holidays looking for people that are doing their best to stay hidden. Undercover investigations, missing persons, cheating spouses, due diligence, assets collection and surveillance are very time consuming and very costly. Most investigators charge $45 to $100 per hour working on your case. And this doesn’t include costs of equipment, media, paperwork, meals and other incidentals that are essential to finding the information you need.

Question: Why do i have to pay a retainer?

Retainers are necessary for most work that involves time and assets to produce work product. Attorneys and Professional Investigators use retainers as a "down payment" on the work you have requested. A Professional Investigator bills all activities and expenses from your retainers, and can update you periodically how a case is progressing. Online case management system like the one we use at Alliance Investigations can enable you to access or comment on your case in real time. Any fees above your initial retainer will be discussed with you before you go above your retainer amount. Experience Investigators often quote the price of a retainer based on the experience of working on a similar case.

Question: I asked the police to help me find my runaway son, and they seem to not be able to find them. Can you help?

Yes. Law Enforcement handles hundreds of cases a day, thousands a year, so sometimes it can seem that the police are indifferent to your suffering. This is not the case. Your child is one of thousands who go missing each year, and police are quite honestly overwhelmed. Years of budget cuts have reduced the amount of detectives that look for missing persons or children. A professional investigator can devote a more focused search for your child or missing person. This doesn’t mean that it is easy and you can expect immediate results, only that a professional investigator can do his or her best to help you.

Question: How do i find if a Investigator is licensed or legitimate?

In the state of Washington, licensed investigators undergo minimum standards training and current licenses and any disciplinary actions are listed on the Washington State department of licensing website: http://www.dol.wa.gov
